Between 1904 and 1935 fourteen land speed records were set on the hard-packed sands of Daytona Beach. Five of them by Rolex wearer Sir Malcolm Campbell. Launched in 1963 the new generation of chronograph, the cosmograph, was given the name Daytona by Rolex. A name that quickly became an icon in the world of auto racing. It was designed as a robust tool for endurance racing drivers with a waterproof case and a tachymetric scale bezel for calculating average speed. It was not long before it crossed over into the daily lives of average citizens with dreams of speed.
