The iconic Rolex Submariner was first introduced at the Basel Watch Fair in 1954. It astounded the watch world with a depth rating of 200 meters and a uni-directional bezel for tracking airtime while submerged underwater. Only minor changes occurred during the first years of its existence such as thinning of the crown guard, adding a date window and increasing depth rating to today’s standard of 300 meters or 1000 feet. 2003 saw the addition of a green bezel insert for the Submariner’s 50th anniversary. In 2009 the Submariner was fitted for the first time with a ceramic bezel in Roselor or Rolex gold and stainless steel. 2010 saw the introduction of a white gold version of the Submariner with a blue dial and blue ceramic bezel. Also in 2010 version 116610LN/LV debuted with a green dial and green ceramic bezel, today affectionately known as “The Hulk.“
